Messerschmitt was a West German aircraft builder that dabbled
in autos for nearly two decades. Starting in 1953 Messerschmitt built micro-cars
that became known as "Cinderella's coffins".
The one pictured here is a 1955 KR200. Produced from 1955
to 1964, Messerschmitt built about 25,000 of these three-wheeled micro-mobiles.
The KR200 has tandem seating for two, rear wheel drive and a rear mounted
191cc single-cylinder two-stroke reversible engine. At 99" long and
merely 48" wide, the micro could hit 60mph.
The 1957-1961 TG500 Tiger model with it's four wheels and
500cc engine could reach nearly 75mph. Mercy. |
