A 22 year 40 day old Canadian named Greg Moore (born April 22, 1975) became the youngest winning driver in IndyCar/CART history when he won on the Milwaukee Mile on June 1, 1997. Thus surpassing the previous youngest ever winner, Troy Ruttman. Greg Moore, proving that his win was not luck, had already placed runner-up in two previous races in 1997 and then went on to win his second consecutive race with a victory at the circuit on Belle Isle outside of Detroit.

The above photos show the talented Moore at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in his Mercedes-Benz-powered Reynard with Firestone tires. The shot of Moore standing was taken at the keyhole where he had just crashed in a late bid for position before the close of the race in 1996. In 1997 Moore qualified third and placed second at Mid-Ohio. Moore finished his sophomore season seventh in points. His second year in CART saw him finish fifth in the Championship. Truely a great in the making.
