Panoz Motor Sports
in a Panoz GTR-1
1998 24 Hours of Daytona

The multi-talented Scott Pruett drove for Panoz Motor Sports at the 1998 Daytona 24 Hours in a Panoz GTR-1. Pruett, a veteran racer, had already chalked up impressive runs at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the 1990s with a second overall in 1992 and an overall win in 1994. Pruett also had class wins at Daytona in 1987 and again in 1988. Pruett was reunited with Tony Dowe, Panoz Motor Sport Team Manager, who worked at Tom Walkinshaw Racing when Pruett was brought in to pilot the Jaguar GTPs for several endurance races.

Unfortunately for Pruett, the 1998 Daytona 24 Hours was not to be his nor Panoz Motor Sports. Pruett's Panoz GTR-1 was hit from behind by a Can-Am car early-on on Saturday. Pruett's no. 5 Panoz GTR-1 (bottom left image - note the missing rear end).
