1947 MK VI
Franay Cabriolet

The 1947 Bentley Mk VI Franay Cabriolet is by far the most amazing "modern" Bentley in existence. When chassis number B20 BH was delivered to Franay in Paris by its owner, Frenchman Gadol, the carrossier was enlisted to spare no expense at making this Bentley something unique.

Examples of the uniqueness of this Franay creation vary from the use of Philippine frog leather on the three seats, door panels, and dashboard to the leather-wrapped storage box by the third seat. The fuel filler door opens by way of a hidden hook under chrome trim. The rear passenger is presented with a pair of clocks, barometer, compass, inclinometer, and flasher indicators. An opening V-screen was added after 1951 when the Mk VI was sent back to Franay for cosmetic touch-ups.

Power for this two-ton work of art comes from an inline six of 4-1/4L displacement. The 137bhp make its connection to pavement via a four speed manual box. Stopping power comes in the form of drums all around. Top speed is estimated to be just shy of 90mph.

The Franay Bentley made its way into the US by way of opera singer Sergio Franchi. It then made its way into the hands of Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance co-president, Lorin Tryon. Mr. Tryon is also president of the amazing Behring Automotive Museum. After being purchased by Gary Wales in 1981, the car went through a ten year refurbishment.

Throughout its life, the Franay Bentley has been winning concours awards from France (Bagatelle), England (Hurlingham) and America (Pebble Beach).
